Fibre optic and coaxial connectors are essential components of any modern telecommunications or networking system that needs to transmit signals or data over a long distance. Technical Challenges
Fibre optic connectors principally rely on two technologies: butt joint contacts and expanded beam contacts. Butt joints offer higher optical performance over expanded beam contacts. However, expanded beam contacts offer better resistance to ingress from dirt. As the efficacy of fibre optic connectors depends upon cleanliness at the interfaces, their is a trade off to be made.
The impedance of devices and in transmission lines is a practical problem in radio technology. The characteristic impedance of RF (radio frequency) connectors based on coaxial contacts is 50Ω or 75Ω.
