Locking Connector

In critical applications, a secure connection is not just a feature; it is a fundamental requirement. For engineers and designers, selecting a locking connector that guarantees signal integrity and power stability is paramount. At LEMO, we provide high-performance locking connectors engineered with Swiss precision to ensure your systems operate flawlessly, even in the most demanding environments. You need a connection that will not fail, and our solutions are built to deliver that certainty.

Overview :

LEMO's Push-Pull Locking Technology:
The Definitive Connection

The core of our connector reliability lies in the original Push-Pull self-latching system. This mechanism provides a fast, simple, and highly secure method for mating and unmating a plug and socket assembly. Unlike conventional locking systems, it eliminates the risk of accidental disconnection through vibration, shock, or cable snags.

What makes LEMO Push-Pull system unique

The simplicity of the LEMO Push-Pull mechanism is its greatest strength. To connect, you simply push the plug into the socket. The internal latching mechanism engages automatically and securely. Disconnection is equally straightforward: a gentle pull on the connector's outer release sleeve disengages the latch, allowing the plug to be withdrawn. This action is impossible by pulling on the cable or the plug housing itself, providing an unparalleled level of security.

  • Fast and Secure Mating: The self-latching mechanism ensures a reliable connection is made instantly.
  • Space-Saving Design: The high density of the terminal and pin layout allows for a smaller panel footprint without compromising performance.
  • User Confidence: An audible and tactile 'click' confirms that the connector is fully and securely mated. et.

What parameters determine the reliability of a connector’s locking system?

Our commitment to Swiss engineering excellence is evident in the robustness of every component. LEMO locking connectors are designed and tested to withstand extreme levels of vibration and shock, making them the ideal choice for applications where movement and mechanical stress are constant factors. The connector housing, internal contacts, and locking mechanism work in unison to maintain a stable electrical and mechanical link, ensuring your hardware remains operational when it matters most.

How to compare Push-Pull locking to other systems?

When evaluating connector options, it is important to consider the operating environment. While traditional screw-thread or bayonet couplings have their uses, they can be cumbersome in space-constrained applications and may loosen under persistent vibration.

The LEMO Push-Pull system offers distinct advantages:

  • Speed: Mating and unmating is significantly faster than with screw-on systems, which is critical in time-sensitive operations.
  • Security: The self-latching design provides superior protection against accidental disconnection compared to simpler clip or fastener systems.
  • Durability: Engineered for high mating cycles, our connectors offer a long service life without degradation in performance, providing a reliable interface you can depend on.

How many mating cycles can each connector locking type typically withstand?

The longevity of a connector is a critical factor in its selection, and different locking mechanisms are engineered for different operational lifetimes. The mating cycle of a connector helps to estimate the life span of a connector in a specific application.

Does the connector need to be connected/disconnected every day and during how many years? LEMO designs its systems for high durability and repeatability.
Typical endurance for our locking types is as follows:

  • Breakaway / Quick-Release: Designed for rapid connection and disconnection, these models typically withstand 5,000 mating cycles.
  • Ratchet System: Our ratchet locking mechanisms are specified for 3,000 mating cycles.
  • Threaded Coupling: The threaded systems, such as those in the V and W series, are rated for 1,000 mating cycles, providing a highly robust and secure link.

Which types of locking connectors allow remote actuation of the locking system?

For demanding environments where manual operation is not possible, such as in the nuclear industry, LEMO provides several connector series designed for remote handling by a robot or manipulator. The selection depends on the type of manipulator being used.

These connectors utilise the LEMO Push-Pull, self-latching system. Disconnection is achieved when the manipulator pulls on the flat sides of the connector shell or, if equipped, by pulling a dedicated lanyard.
